[Munhwa News MHN reporter Woo Jihae / translated by Jung Halim] The idol group (G)I-DLE partners with Republic Records, known for signing Ariana Grande, in an attempt to break into the American market. 

Part of the Universal Music Group, Republic records stated on 8pm EDT, “We are excited to be teaming up with the multi-talented girl group, (G)I-DLE, as they make their highly anticipated debut into the U.S. marketplace.”

Republic Records COO and cofounder Avery Lipman continued, “The new mini album, ‘I Trust,’ launches the group stateside as we endeavor to accelerate their trajectory towards global stardom.” 

He went on to state that their new mini album ‘I Trust’ hit number 1 in the ITunes album charts in 39 different regions. He also noted that it hit number 1 in the American Pop Album and Kpop charts, 3rd in the general album chart, and the title track ‘Oh my god’ hit number 1 in the ITunes Kpop singles chart, with its music video also exceeding 30 million views, focusing attention on ‘I Trust’, which was released on April 6th.

He also showed excitement towards the future of (G)I-DLE, stating that they have great potential towards expanding their reach into the American and global market, and that 2020 could be their most important year.

"We are glad to team up with Republic, a flagship label in the U.S., and hope (G)I-DLE can write a new history for K-pop under our collaboration," Cube's CEO Ahn Woo-hyung said.

With their debut on May 2018 with the single ‘LATATA’, and the release of their third  mini album ‘I Trust’, they’ve repeatedly shown captivating performances and concepts and gotten feverous praise from around the globe. 

The new mini album’s title track ‘Oh my god’ reached 1st in the Korean Genie, Bugs, and Naver Music charts, 4th in Melon, and 8th in the Soribada charts, and the music video garnered 37 million views.
